A new interactive careers roadmap has been launched by Civil Contractors New Zealand to showcase the different opportunities in the civil construction industry and inspire school leavers and other career seekers to explore them.

The digital CCNZ Careers Roadmap allows people to discover more than 50 different civil construction careers and understand what each involves, the skills or certifications they might need in work in the role, and future career opportunities the role can lead to.

Links to training providers are embedded in the roadmap to make it easy for career seekers to take the first step into the civil construction industry, along with inspiring worker videos and articles to help bring different roles to life.

CCNZ Workforce Development Manager Rebecca Fox says the roadmap is an engaging and informative way for career seekers to explore the industry, giving them all the information they need to shape their own future.

“There’s no particular destination, the maps encourage individuals to explore and figure out their own route to where they want to get to in the future.

“One of the roadmap’s strengths is its ability to show clearly what career progression looks like in the civil construction industry.”

Rebecca says the roadmap also helps young career seekers realise that nobody starts at the top – it takes a career journey to navigate your way there.

“You only start at the top when you’re digging a hole,” she jokes.

The roadmap is the first of its kind for New Zealand civil construction and aims to showcase all aspects of the industry, including the significant work done below ground that people don’t always see.

“The civil construction industry is really good at building cool stuff and burying it so sometimes people don’t get to see the vital difference it is making it,” Rebecca says.

CCNZ will monitor how people are using the roadmap to make it as user-friendly as possible and to ensure it is providing school leavers and career seekers with the information they need to build their own future in civil construction, Rebecca says.
